I came back sad and deprived from Shirdi: Preity Zinta - Bollywood News Gossips

New Delhi, March 3 (IANS) Unlike her fellow actor Shilpa Shetty who was "at peace" after her visit to Shirdi recently, Preity Zinta has returned with unpleasant memories of being pushed by the media in the pilgrim town.

"Good morning! Went to Shirdi yesterday and came back with memories of media pushing me instead of the serene face & energy of Sai Baba (sic)," an irritated Preity posted on her Twitter page.

The 36-year-old actor is quite displeased with the mad rush for celebrities even at a place of pilgrimage and is upset that she couldn't even pray properly.

"I wonder why r temples have become so commercial? Why A temple trustee's urge 2 b photographed with a celebrity is entertained by media? In front of god, we bare ourselves and look to purify our soul. Instead of feeling uplifted i came back feeling sad & deprived from Shirdi.

"In the rut to make anything news, have we forgotten to respect god and someone's genuine devotion? I fold my hands to the media & request dem 2 Respect us & respect GOD! Not every celebrity goes 2 a temple 4 Tamasha! Some genuinely go 2 pray & 2 disturb them then is BAD KARMA," she added.

Preity has been off the big screen for sometime now. Her last full-fledged role was in "Heroes" in 2008.

It's true, I will direct 'Dabangg' sequel: Arbaaz - Bollywood News Gossips

New Delhi, March 3 (IANS) Bollywood actor-producer Arbaaz Khan, who has been on a high ever since his debut production "Dabangg" turned out to be a blockbuster, will now take the reigns as the director for the sequel of the masala action movie.

Director Abhinav Kashyap, who helmed "Dabangg", has decided against directing the sequel, for reasons unknown.

"Hey guys it true, I will be directing the sequel of 'Dabangg'. Abhinav for some personal n professional reasons opted out (sic)," Arbaaz posted on his Twitter page Thursday.

Arbaaz, who couldn't make it big as an actor thanks to flops like "Daraar" and "Hello Brother", hit the gold with his first production venture.

"Scripting has already started, the filming starts by early january. Start sound, camera, action. Inshallah 'Dabangg 2' will live up to all the expectations and be a huge blockbuster because of you all. God bless . Allah hafiz. Dabangg ho!," added the 43-year-old.

Rumours that Kashyap won't direct the "Dabangg" sequel began doing the rounds in November last year itself.

At that time, Kashyap had denied the news, and told IANS: "This is just a rumour. I want to know if I am not making it, then who is making it? I even spoke to Arbaaz (Khan)...even he doesn't know from where these rumours are coming."

It was speculated that either Arbaaz or his brother Sohail would be directing the movie, and the news has now turned out to be true.

"Dabangg", starring Salman Khan and debutant Sonakshi Sinha, was the highest Bollywood grosser of 2010.

SRK, Leo to play chor-sipahi! - Hollywood / Bollywood News Gossips

In what is touted to be the biggest Hollywood-Bollywood collaboration so far, superstar Leonardo DiCaprio, 36, plays an American cop, and Bollywood’s biggest actor, Shah Rukh Khan, 46, will take on the role of a former don.

The project, Xtreme City, to be directed by Paul Schrader of Gigolo fame, is a crime drama set in Mumbai. It also has song and dance numbers. SRK is busy filming in Malaysia, but his office confirms the news. Schrader had said in an earlier interview, “It is about two men who’ve worked together — a US policeman and an Indian ex-bhai. It deals with the world of crime, but also revolves around families, romance, obligations and farce.”

Co-producing the thriller with SRK is Hollywood veteran Martin Scorsese, 68, after he met Khan and the film’s scriptwriter, Mushtaq Sheikh, at this year’s Berlin Film Festival.

Considering that both Leo and SRK are global heartthrobs, one wonders who will steal the limelight. “It’ll be Leo. He is a known name even SRKin non-Bollywood areas. But, Shah Rukh will get a lot of prominence,” says trade expert Taran Adarsh. Film analyst Amod Mehra says, “Obviously Leonardo, because he has a bigger fan following than Shah Rukh’s.”

She says, “Abhay likes to create controversies to be in headlines but he should not do it at the cost of his biggest commercial hit. Everyone gained from Aisha and also Abhay so there is no reason for him to be upset.”

Abhay Deol had made a comment about Sonam Kapoor’s home productions that it carries more style than substance and a huge part of the budget went into costumes.

I knew I'll be able to act easily, says Asha Bhosle at 77 - Bollywood News Gossips

Mumbai, March 3 (IANS) Singing legend Asha Bhosle is ready to don a new role. She is making her acting debut in a Hindi film at the age of 77.

Acting, she says, will not be a challenge because it runs in her family and singing too involves a certain degree of acting.

"When I heard about the role, I knew that I will be able to do it because acting is in my family. My father was a drama artist. Also, when we sing, it incorporates acting. If we don't put some acting in a dance song, no one would be able to dance on it," Asha, who has sung more than 12,000 songs in 18 languages, told IANS.

"We have to put expressions in a song when we sing it. So many times there are dialogues in songs too. So I realised if I can do that, I can act on the screen as well," she added.

The Padma Vibhushan awardee will essay the title role in the film "Maaee", which will show what happens when a woman is abandoned by her only son and how she finds shelter in her daughter and son-in-law's house.

Being co-produced by Subhash Dawar-Nitin Shankar and directed by debutant Mahesh Kodiyal, the family drama goes on the floors in April this year and will be shot entirely in Mumbai.

Talking about how the role fell into her lap, she said: "I was in Pune for a show. After the show we were in the hotel. Nitin works with us. He came and started narrating a story. I was generally listening without any other inclination.

"He told me that the name of the film is 'Maaee'. I felt really nice because even I used to call my mother by that name. So that really touched me. Then even my son joined our conversation and everyone told me that no one else can do this role except me."

"I was shocked and I told them to stop joking, but they said they were serious. So I asked for some time to think about it," said the singer known for trying all kinds of songs in her successful career.

Asha, who has lent her voice to evergreen renditions like "Dum maro dum" ("Hare Rama, Hare Krishna"), "Mehbooba mehbooba' ("Sholay"), "Mera kuch saaman" ("Ijaazat"), "Piya tu ab to aaja" ("Caravan") and "Chura liya hai tum ne" ("Yaadon Ki Baraat"), said yes to it because she wanted to try something new in her life.

"I discussed it with my son. He said, 'You have always tried so many different things, sung all types of songs, done shows around the world, even sung English songs. You have tried so many new things in your career and you always have the hunger to do more and more new things; so why not this?' "

"I realized he is right. I have tried so many new things, but acting on the big screen remains; so why not try that? Then I said yes," Asha explained to IANS about her decision.

However, the veteran says that acting is not going to be a regular affair and that the film is only a one-off project.

"I won't do any other film after this. I just wanted to try something new. So I'm doing this. Otherwise, I don't want to become a full time actress. I'm happy being a singer," she said.

Asha will also sing a song for the film that co-stars actress Padmini Kolhapure as her daughter.

"Padmini is a wonderful actress. She left work after marriage; otherwise she would have still been a top actress. She now does very selective roles and when I asked her, she said 'I will do it'," said the legend.

'Housefull 2' will see fresh pairs on screen - Bollywood News Gossips

Mumbai, March 3 (IANS) Director Sajid Khan is all set to shoot part two of his successful comedy "Housefull" and says he will not only present fresh pairings on screen, but also bring together the Kapoor brothers - Randhir and Rishi - on screen.

"I've paired Asin (Thottumkal) for the first time with Akshay, John Abraham for the first time with Jacqueline Fernandez. We're looking for a leading lady for Riteish Deshmukh," he added the director who will also shoot "Housefull 2" in Chile, Argentina, Britain, Phuket and Hongkong.

Sajid is also excited about bringing the two brothers Randhir and Rishi Kapoor together in "Housefull 2".

"I'm their huge fan. I had so much fun working with Dabooji in 'Housefull'. And Chintuji is arguably the most natural entertainer we've ever had in our films. And guess what? I'm naming them 'Daboo' and 'Chintu' in the film," said Sajid.

Sajid is in principal against sequels.

"I dropped plans of doing a sequel to my 'Heyy Babyy'. But 'Housefull' is a franchise. My producer Sajid Nadiadwala and I want to carry it forward. We've retained the name and the basic premise of a house crammed full with character, chaos and comedy. Everything else is completely different from the first 'Housefull'."

SRK ropes in Martin Scorsese for film - Bollywood News Gossips

If rumours are to be believed, SRK has roped in the legendary Martin Scorsese to co-produce his dream Bollywood-Hollywood project, Xtrme City. Courtesy SRK's friend and Ra.One screenwriter Mushtaq Shiekh, Xtrme City is already making waves for its international cast and crew. Reportedly, Scorsese will co-produce along with David Weisman. The film also stars Leonardo DiCaprio.

Shiekh confirmed to Mid Day, "It's true. We are all elated. This is the best news I have heard in a long time. Martin loved the script and it meant the world to me as the writer of the film along with Paul Schrader. But when he comes in as the producer of the project, then I am thrilled as it takes the film to another level completely. Inshaallah, all goes well from here onwards. Fingers and all parts of the body crossed."

After many delays and glitches, the project is finally underway. A source told the tabloid, "The sheer logistics of merging two great film-making cultures seemed overwhelming, until a secret meeting took place on February 12 at last year's Berlin Film Festival between SRK, Leo, Martin, David, Paul and Karan Johar when Shah Rukh was in Berlin for the world premiere of My Name Is Khan and the H-Town actor-director duo were there for the premiere of their Shutter Island premiere the following night."

The meeting between the cinema stalwarts from differnt parts of the globe was a high-energy affair. The source added, "The meet-and-greet over coffee was simply intended to break the ice between the international artists who admired and respected each other's work. It quickly turned into a high-energy encounter. Topics of discussion included Scorsese's love for Bollywood cinema and the need for the preservation of its classic works." The Xtrme City screenplay was officially presented to SRK, Martin and DiCaprio. "Apparently, the camaraderie evolved from that event. The bonding between the superstars took everyone by surprise."

If all goes well, the dream Bollywood-Hollywood project will finally happen.

Ranbir to romance Katrina again! - Bollywood News Gossips

Bollywood actors Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, who are rumoured to be dating each other, will soon be seen together in remake of Telugu film Magadheera, reported Mumbai Mirror.

The couple, who shared great onscreen chemistry in Rajneeti and Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani, are back together. Ranbir will play the lead role essayed by Ram Charan in the original and Katrina will essay the role Kajal Agrawal played, reportedly.

Ranbir will undergo meticulous training to get in shape for his role. "Ranbir has got a detailed brief on how he needs to make his body match the role he will play," a source told Mumbai Mirror.

However, Ranbir wasn't the first but the fourth choice for the film. "It has been an uphill task for Madhu Mantena to finalise the cast of the film. Madhu wanted Aamir to do the film but after watching the original, Aamir met with the director at his residence and politely refused. Madhu also spoke to Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor for the film but they were also not keen to do it," added the source.

Katrina has spoken to the co-producer and will be signing on the dotted line soon reportedly. However, she denied signing the film.

Director Madhu Mantena is tight lipped about the casting. "We will let you know when actors are signed," he told the tabloid.

Kangna Ranaut: No bikini please! - Bollywood news Gossips

New Delhi, March 3 -- Actor Kangna Ranaut recently shied away from wearing a bikini. While shooting for David Dhawan's Rascals, the otherwise-bold actor threw a fit when she was asked to wear a bikini. "Kangna had told her friends that she was excited to wear a bikini.

Nobody knows what made her change her mind," a source said.

Security for Katrina please! - Bollywood News Gossips

New Delhi, March 3 -- My dhobi Safedi Lal wants me to hear about Katrina Kaif getting stuck in Ranchi due to the crowd that had gathered for the National Games.

She had gone to perform there and apparently, the sports event has never registered such a huge turnout before. So, Kat was getting nervous as she had to catch a flight back home. Thankfully, the police security acted swiftly and ensured that she was not only escorted out safely, but also reached the airport without any trouble. Phew!

Celebrity Dresses: How tight is too tight? - Bollywood NEws Gossips

New Delhi, March 3 -- It's perhaps the worst fashion faux pas. Veteran actor Joan Collins, 77, felt so breathless in her tight dress at the Oscars after-party that she had to be rushed to the hospital straight from the celebrations. The actor, who almost passed out at the star-studded ceremony, blamed her stiff dress for the mishap.

There are rumours that those who attended the party felt that the actor looked as if she had squeezed herself in a dress that was two sizes small. However, Collins is not alone when it comes to tight-dress disasters. Bollywood divas have also been in a similar spot. (see box)

Experts reason that innerwear is very important when it comes to dressing comfortably. "To look thin, celebs wear body shapers that suck the stomach in and restrict breathing, making you feel dizzy," says designer Rina Dhaka. "At least two trials of the dress are very essential before any big event, but many celebs tend to skip it," adds Rajat Tangri, Bollywood stylist. Designer Anupama Dayal says,"Any dress that is even one inch tight or loose can be a disaster on the red carpet. At such important events, it's a bad idea to wear a dress that is uncomfortable or restricts your movements."

Designer Chandrani Singh Flora adds, "The thumb rule for wearing any dress on important functions is to try it on beforehand, and wear it for at least half an hour before that big day. If it is a stretch outfit, it is still okay, but in fabrics like heavy silk, you need to have at least an inch of breathing space. Designer Falguni Peacock cautions against corset dresses: "Go for extremely tight dresses only if you are ready to risk fainting and feeling dizzy throughout the evening. The corset dress can be the worst culprit, as it affects the breathing process. Also, you should never wear a dress that is more than half a size smaller than yours.

'Wish she'd let me keep the gorillas': Hrithik Roshan - Bollywood News Gossips

Mumbai, March 3 -- Nearly 15 years ago, on his first date with Sussanne, Hrithik Roshan excused himself to take a call. When he returned, he found Sussanne Khan scribbling something. She admitted that she was working on some accounts because some day she wanted to open a one-of-its-kind store that would stock limited edition furniture from all over the world.

Hrithik didn't understand interiors or money. But he understood what it was to chase after an impossible dream. He had one too, to become an actor. In 2000, his impossible dream came true. "When Sussanne saw Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai for the first time, she had tears in her eyes. I understood why only 10 years later. Last Sunday, my eyes were glistening too as her shop, The Charcoal Project, opened its doors," he reminisces.

Ask him how much he has contributed to the store and he says he was just the medium for Sussanne to realise her extravagantly daring dream. "For 15 years, I have been nudging her along because I believe that if you want to do something truly innovative, the universe conspires to make it happen because it needs to extend its boundaries too," he reasons.

He marvels at how four walls and an empty floor have metamorphosed into a 'museum' and admits that he'd like to charge people to just take a stroll and not take away anything from the store. "Many of my favourite pieces were sold on the opening day. I wish she'd let me keep the gorillas (installations) made from car parts but Sussanne won't allow me to take anything home," he sighs.

The four corners of the store are assigned to different furniture, from antiques to contemporary, and from expensive to everyday stuff. There is a little section for their kids to play too but the boys know that they have to be really careful among the miniature chairs and cars that are for sale. "Hrehaan and Hridaan are very understanding, like their mother,"

Hrithik smiles. His entrepreneur wife, he insists, is an example of the modern Indian woman who can balance her two worlds with equal ease. "The Dresden China looks are deceptive, Sussanne is actually a Trojan warrior," he says. "The first time I stepped into the store, my mouth fell open. That's the reaction I noticed every time a guest walked in last Sunday, and that included her collaborators from Paris, New York and Los Angeles. One day, she'll conquer the world with a chain of such stores."

After the first schedule of the Agneepath remake was delayed by Ajmal Kasab's verdict, Hrithik starts shooting for the film tomorrow. "People around me keep reminding me about Mr Bachchan's (Amitabh) Vijay Dinanth Chauhan. Comparisons are inevitable but the intention is not to better the earlier film. When Karan (director Karan Malhotra) came for the narration, I had made up my mind that I wasn't doing the film. But once I heard the script, I couldn't say no. This Agneepath is not a remake, it's a new film."

No showstopper for Manish! - Bollywood news Gossips

Mumbai, March 3 -- One of the first fashion designers to bring a Bollywood face on the ramp as his show stopper, Manish Malhotra, who has been juggling films, his design studio and ramp showings, has decided that he doesn't need a Bollywood showstopper at his show at the upcoming fashion week that flags off in the city next weekend.

"I'm getting tired of seeing a popular face on the catwalk, the idea is no longer exclusive," sighs Malhotra who had Aishwarya (Rai Bachchan) walking for him at the HDIL Couture Week last year. "Celebrities should be sparingly used, the focus should always be on fabrics and designs."

Malhotra, who completes 21 years in the fashion industry, is a favourite with several actors, including Urmila Matondkar, Karisma Kapoor, Kajol, Kareena Kapoor, Aishwarya, Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone among others. He also shares a great personal and professional rapport with Shah Rukh Khan, Shahid Kapoor, and Saif Ali Khan. "I'm not just dropping names, all these Bollywood biggies are my friends first, and I'm eternally grateful to them for supporting me in whatever way they could, and that includes being my showstoppers, models or simply guests, whenever I've requested them to be," he says.

Matondkar was the first Bollywood celebrity to walk the ramp in 1999, and it was for one of Malhotra's shows. Other designers soon picked up the trend, and several of Malhotra's actor friends have since sashayed down the runway for him, and others.

Recently, he had over 20 stars at a fashion show organised for for the Mijwaan charity fund set up by Shabana Azmi's father, Kaifi Azmi.

Today however the designer wonders if these Bollywood showstoppers have turned into publicity and marketing gimmick. "Sporadically, like in the case of the Mijwaan girls, it works wonderfully as an attention catcher. But on several other occasions, it takes away from the designer's work," Malhotra points out. "No one speaks about the collection then, but everyone raves about the celebrity on show. That is annoying for any creative person. So this year, my friends will be at my show, but only as my most special guests and supporters."

Shahid-Priyanka Yeh duriyaaan..! - Bollywood news Gossips

Mumbai, March 3 -- Hmm, his birthday was a talking point, not so much because of who came, but because of someone who didn't come despite pleads. Dhobi is now talking about Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra.

It seems that the two still haven't met after his birthday. PC is away spending time with family and friends, and is expected to be holidaying for long. Meanwhile Sasha is with his friends, chatting over falafel and other goodies. I wonder if they've even spoken, whether Sasha has sent a 'Thank You' note to his ladylove who sent him a present at the stroke of midnight. Should put some jasoos types on to this one for sure.
